It was certainly a busy year for news.

Blistering exchanges in the Dáil were in contrast to silence once again in the chambers of Stormont.

Oireachtas TV held firm under the strain of the masses tuning in to watch RTÉ representatives before the Media and Public s committees, while images of burning vehicles following riots in Dublin city centre shocked the country.

On the jollier side, a visit from US president Joe Biden shone the world's spotlight on Ballina, if only for just one night, and our sports stars once again gave us something to cheer about.
