My Weekend: A trip to the beach recharges the batteries

Andy McManagan, Programme Associate at Republic of Work and Regional Lead of the NDRC Programme
My name is Andy McManagan and I’m the Programme Associate at Republic of Work and Regional Lead of the NDRC Programme, helping tech startups in the early stages of their development. In this role of mine, I have the freedom to grow my ion for tech startups in Ireland.
My ions outside of work include exploring what Cork City has to offer and spending time with my family and friends.
On a Friday night you’d often see me welcoming the weekend with a movie night alongside my friends. In the warmer months, I’m no stranger to an impromptu barbecue right after work.
I seize the day during the week, often getting up at around 6:15 am but on Sundays I treat myself to a lie in before the week ahead.
The laptop stays closed most weekends but on occasion we’ll host events and workshops in Republic of Work on Saturday or Sunday. The energy these events provide don’t make it feel like work at all.
Barcelona would have my heart! I’d stay in a lovely rooftop apartment in the heart of the city with my pals and soak up the perfect blend of sun and city activities.

My absolute favourite place to recharge the batteries is Churchbay in Crosshaven. This beach is the perfect spot to practise mindfulness. A picnic with friends is also frequent at this beach. I will always love Churchbay!
Too much! I’m always exhausted by Monday.
I love playing tag rugby. What started off as merely a means of doing cardio training, quickly changed to a fantastic social activity. Being in the ‘super social league’ division always makes it good fun without too much pressure to be the best player there is.
Be entertained for sure! Cooking is my friend's forte. I'll bring the wine or dessert.
There’s too many to choose from! If I wanted to treat myself to a lovely dinner, Elbow Lane would be my favourite spot. I am a lover of steak and craft beers. If I’m having a casual hang-out with friends or family, Marina Market is a great place for all sorts of food, coffee and comfy couches.
I’d usually spend my Sunday nights at my friend’s gig. She’s often performing in venues around Cork city. It’s the perfect way to close off a busy weekend.
8:30am. On Mondays, I’m one of the Republic of Work staff who close the building at 8, so I get a nice late start. A smooth transition from the weekend to early rises during the rest of the week.
