KidzZone: Busy term for Cork pupils who enjoyed host of activities in run up to Easter

Pupils in sixth class at St Peter’s Dungourney completed the Cycle Right programme recently

Their activities to mark the week included trips to the local library, ‘Cosy Reading’ and Book Buddy Day.

Other activities this term included a STEM Lego Workshop, school soccer tournament, chess tournament, cross country event, Scaith na Scoil matches, as well as choir outings, and soccer training with KlaasKickz.

The trad band at St Peter’s NS, Dungourney, went on tour to Gaelscoil Mainistir na Corann during the same week.

Pupils at the school welcomed grandparents for a special celebration recently.

Meanwhile, 5th class pupils have been working on the Engineering in a Box programme with the help of engineer Kate. They have completed many fun and challenging activities such as building bridges, wind turbines, boats and marble runs as well as testing water samples and making electrical circuits.

Adding to this artistic journey, they were privileged to host two stunning artworks on loan from the Glucksman Gallery, UCC, bringing a touch of gallery magic into their school.

“Being part of Creative Schools has been a transformative experience for students at our school and we look forward to continuing our creative journey,” said Majella Daly, School Principal.

Pupils from 4th class at South Lee Educate Together were invited to UCC this month to take part in the Food is Fuel programme. There they learned all about the digestive system and even had a tour of the university.

“We honoured our dear friend Nicole Tudor, who sadly ed away in November, by wearing her favourite colours - pink and purple - and celebrated her birthday (which was the day before). It was so lovely to see a sea of pink and purple around the school - Nicole would have LOVED IT! We were so delighted to have Nicolae, Nicole’s Dad, us wearing a very special pink outfit!

“Thank you to everyone who donated - over €1000 will be donated to the Puffin Ward in CUH, in memory of Nicole and in thanks to the staff who took such good care of Nicole there,” a school spokesperson said.
