Roads closed due to flooding in Cork city reopen; city council crews remain on standby

High tide has ed in Cork City with flood water now “significantly receded” in the “vast majority of locations” hit by flooding.
In an update this evening, the city council’s director of operations, David Joyce told
that, as expected, high tide peaked at 2.55 metres this evening, which led to a number of road closures.“High tide was at 4.48pm… and where we are at present is the waters have begun to recede right across the city,” Mr Joyce said.
“There is still some small levels of surface water across the city as the water drains away but in the vast majority of locations, the water has significantly receded,” he continued.

All of the roads closed in the city this evening have now been reopened.
Mr Joyce said that traffic and drainage crews will remain on standby for the next number of hours to deal with any aftermath.
“If anybody needs to the city council, our customer service unit is still available until 8pm and after 8pm it will be the normal out-of-hours number for non-emergencies which is 021-4966512 and obviously if you have an emergency you ring 999 or 112,” he added.
Cork City Council has urged commuters in the city to take care on their journey home this evening as parts of the city have been hit by flooding.
This evening's high tide occurred shortly before 4:50pm, with some of the usual areas affected.

The city council has urged people to be "extremely cautious" on the roads as localised flooding is causing disruptions to traffic in areas including Lower Glanmire Road, Wandesford Quay and Morrison's Island.

Lavitt’s Quay, east of Paul Street, is now closed to traffic due to flooding, with commuters asked to adhere to road closures and diversions.
The public has also been advised that the cycle lane on South Mall is currently flooded and that South Terrace is reduced to a single lane with Gardaí on site.
