A free event taking place this month in Cork celebrating the annual Hindu Festival of Holi has sold out just three days after registrations opened.

Holi is a popular and significant Hindu event celebrated as the 'Festival of Colours, Love and Spring', but the organisers stressed that the festival is aimed at not just Indians, but every person residing in Cork.

During the festival, which traditionally marks the end of winter and honours the triumph of good over evil, celebrants throw colourful powder called gulal.

Several smaller Holi celebrations have taken place in Cork, but this will be the first large-scale celebration of the festival.

It will take place on March 24 in Fitzgerald Park and is free, though donations are welcome. There will be a DJ, as well as live music, with a dance party for all ages.

There will also be food stalls offering a range of delicious options.
