Gardaí arrested a teenager following an incident in Carrigaline yesterday evening, during which the male suspect allegedly threated a family member with an imitation firearm.

A garda spokesperson told The Echo that gardaí responded to reports of a male armed with a weapon at the house in Carriagline at around 7pm.

“Uniform Gardaí from Carrigaline attended the scene with assistance from the District Detective Unit and the Regional Armed Unit”.

It is understood gardaí cordoned off the house and surrounding properties for a time while they engaged with the teenager.

Following a stand-off, the teenager threw the weapon out of a window and was arrested.

An imitation firearm, understood to be a BB gun, was seized by gardaí at the scene.

“A man aged in his late teens was arrested at the scene and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in Cork,” said the spokesperson.

This allows for gardaí to detain suspects for up to 24 hours before being charged or released.

“Investigations are ongoing,” said the spokesperson.
