A protest will take place at the Uisce Éireann offices on Eglinton St today at 1pm amid ongoing concern over the issue of discoloured water being experienced by people in parts of the city.
Organised by socialist representatives TD Mick Barry and councillor Brian McCarthy, it is open to all of the public.
Mr Barry said some households are spending up to €1,000 a year on bottled water because they will not drink the water from the taps.
Uisce Éireann said a number of remedial actions are under way including an extensive targeted flushing programme.
However, campaigners say that the evidence to date is that the flushing programmes do not resolve the issues and merely lessen them somewhat for a temporary period.
An Uisce Éireann spokesperson told The Echo: “Uisce Éireann acknowledges the public protest and the disappointment felt by some residents of Cork city.”
The company “accepts that water services in Cork city are not meeting the standards that impacted customers rightly expect, especially considering the investment Uisce Éireann has made in the city.”
