There was an air of nervous excitement and camaraderie as a group of friends open their Junior Certificate results at the Nagle Community College.

More than 8,000 Cork students were among the almost 73,000 pupils nationwide to receive their Junior Certificate results today.

The State Examinations Commission (SEC) released the markings to the highest amount of participants ever, with a total of 645,878 grades issued across 22 individual subjects, marking the third full year of examinations in the reformed junior cycle.

The overall number of students sitting the examination this year increased by 3% on last year, with the proportion of candidates who were re-entrants to education having decreased by 0.4%.

This year saw all subjects examined at common level, except for English, Irish, and mathematics, which were examined at both higher and ordinary level.

Proud

Speaking to The Echo, Nicola Barrett, principal of Le Chéile Secondary School in Ballincollig, said: “They did really well, we’re so proud of them.

“Le Chéile Secondary School opened its doors in September of 2021 with just 17 students — now the first-ever cohort of students, 27 of them, have received their junior cycle results. It’s a fantastic day for the whole school, students, teachers, and parents.

“Many parents of this cohort took a leap of faith in choosing a brand new school for their child’s secondary education, but we are very glad that the student’s results have proven that it was the right decision.”

“We are very proud of each and every one of our students, and I am extremely grateful for the immense work and preparation all of our staff put into providing the very best education for our students.”
