Cork Homeless Drive charity to cease operations

After seven years, the well-regarded Cork charity Homeless Drive is to cease operations.

Since their establishment in 2017, Homeless Drive were on hand to provide crucial to the homeless community in Cork city.

“This has been one of the most meaningful and fulfilling journeys of my life, but it has also been a demanding one. This decision did not come easily, but the time has come for me to step back and prioritise my wellbeing after years of dedicating my time, energy, and heart to this cause,” said coordinator Muriel Farrell Sheehan.

“Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting some of the most inspiring and resilient people. Together we have served countless meals, offered warmth, and built friendships that reminded us all of the power of kindness and community.

“None of this would have been possible without the amazing team of volunteers both past and present, who gave their time and energy to help those in need. To each and every one of you who were with me through rain, wind, and cold nights thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Following the announcement, many people have come out to thank the Homeless Drive for the work they have done. Muriel said: “To our ers, donors, and everyone who ever dropped by with food, clothing, or even just a kind word — your generosity and comion enabled us to carry on our work.

“While I had hoped to find someone to continue this work, it’s clear how challenging and big a commitment a role like this can be. For now, I trust that other organisations and groups will continue to rise to the challenge to help and look after our homeless friends and I know that Cork’s homeless community will remain in safe and caring hands.”
