Major water leak in Mallow may cause supply shortage, Uisce Éireann warns

Uisce Éireann crews are working to repair a major water burst on the raw water main which supplies the Mallow Water Treatment Plant in Ballyellis

Uisce Éireann crews are working on what the utility has described as a ‘major burst’ on the raw water main which supplies the Mallow Water Treatment Plant at Ballyellis.

According to a statement issued this evening (Friday), the reservoir is continuing to supply all customers across Mallow town south and surrounding areas.

“However, as the plant is now out of production water supply to the area will reduce over this evening,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

“Every effort is being made to maintain water supply to as many customers as possible. “Tankering to the reservoir is ongoing but will not be sufficient to maintain normal supply.” According to Uisce Éireann Operations Engineer, Denis Hayes said that any inconvenience “this unplanned interruption may cause and thank the local community for their patience”.

“Expert crews are working to carry out the necessary repairs and limit the supply interruption for customers’ in Mallow town south and surrounding areas,” said Mr Hayes.

Repairs are expected to be completed Saturday afternoon, Uisce Éireann said in its statement. “When production at the plant resumes it will take some time for the reservoir to refill and normal supply to return to all customers through tomorrow evening,” the Uisce Éireann spokesperson said.
