Mourners asked to wear bright colours to funeral of Cork marathon runner

Female friends of a young woman who died in hospital yesterday after she became ill at the finish line of the Cork City Marathon are being asked to wear bright colours and to bring a flower, if desired, to her funeral mass on Thursday.
In a death notice on Rip.ie the family of Ellen Cassidy (24) of Templenoe House, Carhoo, Old Mallow Road, Co Cork say that she will be “forever loved and truly missed.”
Ellen is survived by her parents Vi and Tom, her siblings Mary and Charlie, her boyfriend Rob, her grandparents Joan, Billy and Tom, her extended family and her “many many best friends.”
The funeral notice also reads that Ellen will also be much missed by her coaches, teachers and work colleagues.
Ellen will lie in repose at her home on the Old Mallow Road on Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm.
Her requiem mass will take place on Thursday at the Church of the Annunciation in Blackpool in Cork city with burial following at St Catherine’s Cemetery in Kilcully, Co Cork.
