A Bank of Ireland branch in Cork is among the first to receive a new ATM as part of a €60m investment.
The Ballincollig branch has already had four new ATMs installed, alongside branches in Westmeath, Kildare, Donegal, Dublin, Wicklow, Mayo, Roscommon, and Tipperary.
The new ATM fleet has greater cash-processing capacity and will reduce energy use by more than half.
The ATMs can be used for both withdrawals and lodgements and the majority will ‘recycle’ cash, therefore maximising ATM availability and providing customers with better access to cash when they need it.
To customers who are visually impaired, all the new devices have high-contrast screens and give customers the option of plugging into an earphone socket to be guided through their transaction by voice assistance.
A rolling programme of works between now and the end of 2027 will see 650 ATMs installed in all Bank of Ireland branches across Ireland, marking the bank’s largest single investment in ATMs in the last decade.
The investment will also cover up to five years of servicing and maintenance.
Aisling Killilea, the Ballincollig branch manager, said that the new facilities will “enhance” to Bank of Ireland customers across Cork.
“As a full-service retail bank with a presence right across the island of Ireland, we are committed to continually improving our services and our customers’ financial wellbeing,” said Ms Killilea.
“This means investing purposefully in branches, centres, technology, ATMs, and other infrastructure to ensure we have the most modern and efficient banking services available.
“Our new ATMs in Ballincollig have greater cash-processing capacity, are more energy efficient, and have additional accessibility features.”
Bank of Ireland has 182 branches across the country, 169 of which are in the Republic of Ireland and 13 of which are in Northern Ireland.
As part of this investment, ATMs will be replaced in all of these branches.
