Creative Traditions’ of trad music tutors

hip in Club Ceoil Blarney and Club Ceoil Knocknaheeny is growing, so they are searching for ionate, experienced music teachers to their for the next academic year.

“We need tutors to lead workshops on concertina, accordion, fiddle, sean-nós dancing, and guitar, with other instruments and substitute roles also likely depending on registration numbers,” the group said.

People who have experience teaching music, and who enjoy working with young people and adults in the community are welcome to apply.

If you are a multi-instrumentalist, it is a big bonus.

All successful applicants must complete Garda vetting and child protection training before classes begin.

Community rugby sessions

There are free fun community rugby sessions taking place this month.

From 3.30pm to 5pm, on Fridays throughout June, the sessions will take place at Gerry O’Sullivan Park.

Young people aged between 10 and 14 are welcome to attend on June 20 and 27.

Sessions will also take place on Wednesdays in Popham’s Park and on Saturdays at the Glen Resource Centre.

Part-time upholstery course

Cork College of Further Education and Training in Knocknaheeny is enrolling for a September upholstery class.

If you are interested in furniture upcycling and upholstery this is the course for you: learn how to recycle furniture and transform it into something one-of-a-kind by going through the restoration and upholstery process

This is a QQI level 3 accredited course, offered from September to May.

The courses at Cork College of FET in Knocknaheeny are part-time and fully funded for eligible adults.

Successful ‘Rock the Block’

The Kabin Studio has hailed the ‘Rock the Block’ event as part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2025 at St Anne’s Park Shandon as a success.

“Thank you to everyone for being a part of Rock the Block,” the group said.

“An amazing lineup of performers of all ages, plenty of brand new songs and big energy in a ive atmosphere. And was made even better with all the from everyone involved in the background.

“Big thanks to our special guests Hazey Haze, B-Boy Cian Mulcahy and Beatboxer Lamar for inspiring the next generation of young creatives.

“Big love to everyone for making it happen!”

Rock the Block was a youth music festival, which took place on June 7, as part of Ireland’s national day of creativity for young people.
