John Doyle (Fota Island) won his second Irish Boys Championship today after a commanding wire-to-wire win at Cork Golf Club.
After setting the pace since Wednesday, Doyle was crowned the Flogas Irish Boys champion. The Fota Island golfer went into today's final round with a five-shot lead over the field, and he maintained that lead to complete a commanding victory and his second Irish Boys title.
Tough weather conditions in Cork Golf Club today made it difficult for the chasing field, but it also meant that Doyle needed to keep his concentration through the final 18 holes. He increased his lead to six shots at one stage on the front nine, and steady play through the back nine saw him sign for a final round 73 (+1) and a total of eight under for his 54 holes.
It was a relatively easy finish for Doyle who won his first Irish Boys in 2023.
The Mitchelstown golfer, who has already been selected on two Irish Men's teams this season, will no doubt jump to the top of list of probables for the Boys Home Internationals which take place in Cork Golf Club in August. Irish Boys captain John Carroll was onsite in his home club over the three days to way Doyle’s impressive display.
While Doyle is a likely starter for Ireland in August, his next visit in Cork is only a few days away – he will tee it up in the C2O-sponsored Munster Championship which takes place over Saturday and Sunday.
