High Miss of Griffin United continues her dominance of the Cork draghunting scene with a fourth win in a row

James Wyse with High Miss of Griffin United winner of the Mayfield Senior draghunt his fourth consecutive win.
Four on the bounce for High Miss of Griffin United as she showed another touch of class to win the Mayfield Senior draghunt.
Reports from the various vantage points suggested the hounds were travelling at pace despite the heat of the evening in the Whites Cross terrain.
When the hounds showed on the finish the winner looked in control and as the call went up she raced to the tape in style to win from Wolfe Tone Lass of Northern Hunt.
The reigning All-Ireland champion Tiger’s Boy showed a return to form to snatch third ticket.
The charismatic winning trainer Donal O’Donovan has experienced the highs and lows of the sport but this present winning run of form from his hound is giving him a huge lift.
“To be honest you never know what to expect from High Miss, but I am pleased that she is enjoying the sport again because the reality is that when she decides to run, we always have a chance of winning,” O’Donovan said.
There was also a popular winner of the Senior Maiden draghunt when Hannah Bawn trained by Pat O’Mahony of Kerry Pike/Fair Hill harriers crossed the tape for her fourth win of the campaign.

In a driving finish to the tape the winner held on from the veteran Blue Lad trained by Trina and Ken Long from Southern/Carrigaline harriers.
The consistent Not Now Betty of Clogheen filled third ticket for Clogheen trainers Gary and Nicole Freyne.
The delight on the face of the winning trainer told a thousand stories as by virtue of this win is now promoted to the Senior ranks.
“I am thrilled as Hannah Bawn has been running well all season but now comes the true test as she will have to contend with the big guns,” Pat O’Mahony said.
The Puppy meet was brought forward to Sunday morning to avoid a clash with the Munster hurling championship game in Limerick.
In the Puppy race there was joy for the Damien Wade Clogheen trained Slievemish Duchess when she showed a terrific turn of foot to cross a tape an unchallenged winner.
In tremendous style the winner crossed the tape ahead of Finbarr O’Sullivan’s Mossgrove Rodger of Shanakiel harriers with the Griffin United youngster Jamie’s Lad filling third ticket for trainer Jamie Wyse.
In the Puppy Maiden draghunt only four hounds took their opportunity and in fairness the winner Lewis Lass trained by Mary Barrett won in style and completed the course 40 seconds faster than the Senior pups.
Blue Rose trained by Trina and Ken Long filled second place with Mossgrove Dodger taking third ticket.
Mary Barrett is a dedicated trainer and in the company of her son Lewis she was pleased to see her hound complete consecutive wins in this grade.
“It is always nice to see hounds you have reared win and we have had some good fun in the last week,” Mary Barrett said.
