There are 7,007 students sitting the Leaving Certificate exams and 369 Leaving Certificate Applied candidates in Cork, with a further 8,376 students sitting the Junior Certificate exams.

In Cork, news of the results have begun to emerge. Thirteen students at CBC have received the maximum points of 625, with one student achieving eight H1 grades.

A total of 6,719 students in Cork will sit Leaving Cert exams, 333 will sit the Leaving Cert Applied, and 8,260 will sit the Junior Cert.

Three days into the Leaving Cert examination, word emerged of a “whopper” of a maths paper, said Fine Gael senator Tim Lombard.

Leaving cert students now have the weekend to prepare for the second maths paper on Monday morning.

The second day of the Leaving Certificate saw exams in engineering in the morning and English Paper 2 in the afternoon.

Leaving Cert students completed English Paper 1 and home economics, while the Junior Cycle students sat English Paper 1.

According to the State Examinations Commission, 6,723 students will sit the Leaving Cert, with 304 Cork students sitting the Leaving Certificate Applied examination.

The CAO is the organisation responsible for overseeing undergraduate applications to colleges and universities in Ireland. Applicants have until 5pm today to set up their application to avoid paying an extra fee after the deadline.

Overall, 63,383 students sat the Leaving Cert exam this year, including 3,173 Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) students.
