Two bodies have been found in the Grand Canal in Dublin.

Emergency services responded to reports of a body in the water shortly after 8am on Saturday, where they discovered the remains of two men in their 40s.

The scene at Grand Parade near Charlemont Street is currently cordoned off. The State pathologist and local coroner have been notified.

Gardaí said the results of postmortems would determine the course of their investigation.

Both individuals have been identified but the formal identification process is still continuing, gardaí said.

Emergency services have erected a screen around the scene, which is underneath a bridge in one of the busiest parts of Dublin city centre.
