Man remanded in custody in Belfast on terrorism charges

A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with preparation of terrorist acts.

Habib Shah Shamel (27), with an address given as Maghaberry Prison, appeared at Belfast Magistrates’ Court also charged with possessing articles for use in terrorism and possessing documents or records likely to be useful to terrorists.

The court heard the charges date from April 2023 and relate to the possession of information on a USB stick.

A PSNI detective sergeant connected Shamel with the charges.

No application for bail was made.

No further details were given during the brief hearing.

Shamel spoke only to confirm he understood the charges as he appeared in the dock.

He was remanded in custody until September 26th.
