Woman dies following weekend assault in Cork City

A woman in her 30s who was injured in an assault in Cork city over the weekend died this afternoon, Wednesday December 4th as result of her injuries.

The incident took place around 8pm on Sunday, December 1st, on Patrick's Street outside the former Savoy Cinema.

A soup kitchen feeding homeless people was operating at the time.

The woman was found lying on the ground unresponsive.

She was conveyed to Cork University Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she has since died.

A post-mortem examination has been arranged and is due to take place in due course.

Investigations are ongoing, a garda statement said.
