Gardaí have arrested two women after Revenue officers seized suspected herbal cannabis (64kg) with an estimated value of €1.28 million at Shannon Airport on Monday.

The women, aged in their 20s and 40s, are currently detained at a garda station in the Southern Region.

The cannabis was discovered concealed in vacuum packed packages in the baggage of two female engers’ who had disembarked a flight originating from the United States.

Gardaí and Revenue said they seized approximately 64kgs of herbal cannabis as a result of 'risk profiling'.

Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.

This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs.

This week, revenue officers also seized 2.35kg of cocaine as a result of an intelligence led operation, when officers searched two consignments at Dublin Airport.

This past week, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of over €880,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare.

The cocaine was discovered concealed in boxes described as ‘Engraved Leather Organiser’ and ‘Yoga Wear’ that had arrived in air cargo consignments from the United States and were destined for addresses in Dublin.

Elsewhere, Revenue officers also seized over 30kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of almost €611,300.
