Sit-ups and push-ups are set to be removed from garda fitness tests, while the bleep test is being made easier.
The changes will ensure garda recruits will not have to undergo such severe fitness tests in the future and are being made to encourage more people to the force.
Many people are failing the current fitness tests, so garda management has decided to relax the rules, according to the Irish Times.
162 out of 520 candidates did not it last year.
The fitness test will also be standardised instead of having different versions for men and women and older and younger candidates.
