A man aged in his 50s has died following a collision with a car in Co Offaly on Wednesday night.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the collision, which occurred on the N62 at Killeenboy, Cloghan, Co Offaly.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a pedestrian and a car shortly after 11pm.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His body was brought to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

There were no other injuries reported.

Local diversions are in place and motorists, particularly the drivers of heavy goods vehicles, are asked to travel via Tullamore, Co Offaly.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road s who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10pm to 11.30pm, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
