Two people have died following a house fire in Connemara, Co Galway.

The fire broke out at a property at Gleann Mhic Mhuireann, near Casla, at about 6am on Tuesday.

The blaze was brought under control by fire services. The bodies of a woman (70s) and a man (30s) were recovered from inside the house.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

Both bodies have been transported to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway for postmortems.

Gardaí said the results of the postmortems, along with the findings of the technical examination, will determine the course of their investigation.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
