Man (40s) arrested after burglary of €100k worth of jewellery in Dublin

A man in his 40s was arrested by gardaí in Pearse Street on Wednesday morning following a burglary at a business premises in Co Dublin.

At approximately 2:45am, gardaí responded to a report of a burglary at a retail premises on Clarendon Street, Dublin 2.

On arrival, it was clear that the premises had been damaged and jewellery had been taken during the burglary.

The jewellery stolen in this incident and now recovered by gardaí is estimated to be to the value of more than €100,000.

A description of a suspect was obtained through CCTV, and immediately circulated on radio to other on duty in the area.

Within the hour, gardaí near St Stephen’s Green observed a person matching this description and the man in his 40s was apprehended and arrested.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in Dublin in connection with this incident.

Gardaí preserved a site next to where the male was arrested for the purpose of conducting a search.

The site remains preserved awaiting forensic examination and investigations are ongoing.
