Sunday sport: Mayo send Galway out of championship; Play suspended in Women's PGA Championship

GAA

Mayo will Cork, Tyrone and Monaghan in the All-Ireland Senior Football quarter-finals after they beat Galway at Pearse Stadium.

A strong second half for Kevin McStay's men saw them come from behind to end the game 1-10 to 0-12.

The four preliminary quarter-final winners will now go on to meet the four group toppers in the quarter-finals, with the draw for those pairings to be held on Monday morning.

Elsewhere, Croke Park hosted both Tailteann Cup semi-finals. In the first of the double-header, Meath beat Antrim 2-16 to 2-14, while Down eased past Laois, ending 8-16 to 2-12.

In the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship, Monaghan will meet Dublin in the final after the latter took a 8-16 to 2-12 win against Derry at the Athletics Grounds.

In the second round of the Ladies Football Championship, Meath beat Waterford 1-13 to 1-8, while Dublin took a 5-15 to 1-8 win over Cavan.

In Group 4, Galway saw off Tipperary 4-10 to 3-4, and in Group 1, Armagh beat Mayo 2-10 to 1-11.

Golf

Play has been suspended due to the threat of thunderstorms on the final day of the Women's PGA Championship in New Jersey.

Before the stoppage, overnight leader Leona Maguire had fallen out of the lead.

The Cavan native dropped a shot on the sixth hole at Baltusrol and is now six-under par.

Antrim's Stephanie Meadow is also six-under after picking up a birdie on the seventh hole.

Korea's Jenny Shin and China's Xiyu Lin lead on seven-under.

On the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are both in a tie for fourth place on 15-under par in the final round of the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

American Keegan Bradley leads on 21-under.
