WoW! Reset 2024: How to reset your wardrobe

Sharon Huggard teaches us how to reset our wardrobe in this week's WoW! Reset 2024.
MAKE this the year to celebrate who you are now, not who you were – and do it through your inner sense of style.
Start by asking yourself, what does your wardrobe say about you?

- : afraid to try new things, fear of making mistakes, lost trust in yourself and don't know what suits you and your body anymore.
- playing the 'weighting game', waiting until you lose weight then you will invest in yourself.
- not feeling enough, deserving and worthy as you are so you want to blend in, ‘nothing to see here.’ What you deserve is a wardrobe that works for you and reflects your style, personality and lifestyle.
Before we dive headlong into the black bags of clutter, let's take a breath and pause for a moment to reflect on how we want to look and feel.

Ask what do you want your wardrobe to say about you?
I am a woman who:
- knows who I am
- is ready to step into the woman I want to be
- dresses for me · is confident in my own skin
- appreciates her body · lives life to the full
- celebrates herself I get my clients to pick three words that they want to embody eg confident, professional, creative, badass etc.
Then use these as your guide when decluttering or when shopping. Ask yourself 'Do I feel x.y.z in this?’ If not ... let it go!
We wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time, it's time to move the dial.
- Save time
- Streamline your wardrobe
- Fewer clothes, more outfits
- Shop for gaps in your existing wardrobe
- Reveal any habitual buying patterns
- Gain clarity about who you are and if it is in alignment with the image, you are actually portraying
- To feel invigorated and liberated, as if a weight has been lifted off your shoulders
, the most sustainable way to shop is to start in your wardrobe. Are you ready? Let’s do this!

Give your wardrobe a deep clean and vacuum.
Ask yourself:
When was the last time I wore it? Apply the one season rule. Did you wear it last season? If not, why not?
Would you buy the item now?
Does it suit the woman ready to be?
Does it fit?
How does it make you feel?

Keep - clean, ironed and ready to wear Donate - Give with love Discard - they are beyond redemption Repair/dry clean - ASAP Sell
The aim is to be able to pull outfits more easily and create put together looks with ease. If you can't see it or can't touch it then you can't wear it Remove non-seasonal items Remove sentimental pieces
How you arrange your clothing is a matter of personal choice but I favour by category eg all blazers together, tops together etc. Hang shortest to longest and lightest to darkest colours.
Go through the same process with your accessories, scarves, underwear and shoes.

- Take before and after pictures.
- Invest in quality hangers they will elevate how your wardrobe looks instantly.
- Edit every season.
- Operate a ‘1 in 1 out’ system so if you buy a new top let one go.
- Keep note of any gaps in your wardrobe so you can buy with intention · Only keep 1-2 of the similar items · Make it fun, give yourself plenty of time, pump up the tunes, visualise how it will look and how you will feel afterwards, reward yourself.
- Set yourself up for success and get your outfit ready the night before.
- Invest in storage and organisational solutions.
- Be kind to yourself, decluttering can bring up lots of emotions
- Add a bit of style to your wardrobe space e.g. lighting, rug, mirror, candle etc

These will invariably arise when decluttering. Be gentle and non-judgemental.
You can experience feelings of guilt, shame, embarrassment (who did I think I was, where did I think I was going etc) Watch out for your inner critic, things like:
I paid good money for that. I might never find something like it again. I will fit into that again. You never know when I might need it. I will keep it ... just in case. That's too good to wear.
It's time to step into her now!
