Anna Groniecka turned her ion into her profession after becoming a mother.

Originally from Poland, she moved to Ireland 18 years ago, and Clonakilty has been her home for over 12 years now.

“I moved here seeking new opportunities and a better quality of life,” she said. “I came without any expectations, but found that the West Cork people’s approach to life and work aligned perfectly with my values. This sense of community and balance has been a huge part of why I’ve made Clonakilty my home.

Originally, Anna worked in the corporate sector, in istration and logistics at EMC, before making the switch to photography.

“My journey into photography began as a ionate hobby over 20 years ago, capturing the world around me in my spare time.

However, after the birth of my children, Olivia and Benjamin, I realised I wanted to turn this ion into my profession.

“After having my children, I found that the corporate world no longer fitted my lifestyle or aspirations. Photography, which had always been a cherished hobby, offered me a way to blend creativity with work. The joy of capturing special moments for others, seeing their reactions, and knowing that I was preserving their memories, gave me immense satisfaction.

“Additionally, the flexibility of working for myself allowed me to balance my professional and personal life better, which was crucial as a mother,” said Anna.

The transition wasn’t easy, she its. “But it was driven by a desire to have more flexibility and to do something I truly loved.”

Today, she runs Anna Groniecka Photography, specialising in portrait, commercial, and event photography.

And there’s more – recently she curated an exhibition titled The Road Less Travelled – Artists’ Lives, which showcased the lives and works of 21 talented artists.

“It was held at Cork County Council’s LHQ Gallery and received a wonderful response. The exhibition will be on display again in Green Dot Clonakilty for craft month, where I am also hoping to launch my book.

“This book will be an extension of The Road Less Travelled project, delving deeper into the lives and creative journeys of these remarkable artists. Additionally, I am preparing another exhibition for November in Bytom, my hometown in Poland. This exhibition will be an ode to Ireland as I celebrate 18 wonderful years in this beautiful country,” said Anna.

Working for herself, she said, has been an incredibly rewarding journey filled with both highs and lows.

“On the positive side, I enjoy creative freedom, the ability to set my own schedule, and the chance to build personal connections with my clients. There’s a unique satisfaction in seeing a project through from start to finish, knowing it’s entirely a product of your vision and hard work.

“However, it also comes with its challenges. Managing all aspects of the business, from marketing to finances, can be overwhelming.

“There are times of uncertainty, especially when business slows down. Despite these challenges, the fulfilment I get from my work makes it all worthwhile.

The ability to be my own boss and to see the direct impact of my efforts on my success is incredibly empowering.

Anna ed Network Ireland West Cork in 2019 – and said it was one of the best decisions she made for her business and personal growth.

“At the time, I was looking for ways to connect with other professionals and grow my business network. I had heard about the ive community and the numerous opportunities for learning and development that Network Ireland West Cork offered.

The experience with the Network has been nothing short of fantastic. Being part of this ive community has provided me with invaluable resources, friendships, and business opportunities. The network hosts various events and workshops that have helped me hone my skills and stay updated with industry trends.

“Moreover, the camaraderie within the group is exceptional. It’s inspiring to be surrounded by so many talented and driven women who uplift and each other.

“I have had the honour of serving on the committee of this volunteer-run organisation for several years now, currently holding the positions of Vice President Designate and Newsletter Officer.

“These roles have given me a platform to share my experiences, mentor others, and contribute to the growth and success of the network.

“The sense of community and mutual within Network Ireland West Cork is truly remarkable and has been incredibly rewarding.”

Winning the Networker of the Year award at the branch’s Businesswoman of the Year Awards was “an incredible honour”.

It was a validation of my genuine efforts to connect and collaborate with others. Having a real interest in people and their stories has always been at the heart of my networking approach, and this recognition truly affirmed the value of that authenticity.

“The award boosted my confidence and expanded my network, opening up new opportunities for my business. It was also a moment of pride, knowing that my contributions to the network and the community were appreciated. This award has motivated me to continue working hard, stay genuine, and keep contributing to the community in meaningful ways.”

Anna recently ran for Mayor of Clonakilty.

“That was driven by a desire to give back to the community that has given me so much. I wanted to contribute to the development and well-being of Clonakilty and ensure that the voices of our vibrant community are heard.

“Although I didn’t win, the experience was incredibly enriching. It gave me a deeper understanding of the community’s needs and the issues that matter most to our residents. The I received during my campaign was heartwarming and reinforced my commitment to making a positive impact.”

West Cork feels like home.

“It has a unique charm and a welcoming community that made me feel at home from the start,” said Anna.

The sense of community here is strong, and I’ve formed many meaningful relationships that make me feel deeply connected to the area. West Cork is not just where I live, it’s where I belong.

All Cork finalists will now head to the Network Ireland Businss-woman of the Year awards this September.
