Cork getting into the festive spirit with the launch of 'Corkmas'

IN what has become an annual tradition, the Lord Mayor of Cork has launched Cork City Council’s ‘Corkmas Roulette Wheel’ campaign at Cork Airport.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Kieran McCarthy, launched the campaign, which is organised by the council in conjunction with Cork Airport and Cork’s Red FM, on Friday morning.
The campaign sees the ‘12 days of Giveaways’ roulette wheel return to the airport as part of the wider ‘Corkmas’ campaign.
‘Corkmas’ is aimed at encouraging people to have a sustainable Christmas by ing retail and hospitality and by enjoying the city’s many cultural activities, including the pantomimes at the Everyman and Cork Opera House.

Once a day from Monday, December 11, one of Red FM’s Red Patrollers will handpick an arriving airline enger at Cork Airport and they will ask them to spin the ‘Corkmas’ roulette wheel to win an exclusive prize supplied by local retailers, cultural venues and the hospitality sector.
In conjunction with the airport campaign, radio adverts will begin on Sunday, December 10 to promote the campaign and the wider offerings across Cork city.
Mr McCarthy thanked Cork Airport and Red FM for their of the campaign for the third consecutive year.

“Once again, this year, Cork Airport is pleased to work with Cork City Council as part of their Christmas campaign. For those travelling from afar, the opportunity to win some fantastic prizes upon arrival at Cork Airport is a very special treat.”
This weekend, live music and festive entertainment returns to Emmet Place as choirs from all over Cork perform on the Corkmas Stage by SOLAS, the city’s new large-scale interactive lighting experience.
Today (Saturday) the Christmas choirs keep coming, commencing with the esteemed City of Cork Male Voice Choir at 4pm, followed by the Cork Marina Singers at 6pm.
Throughout the evening there will be performances from the Guys and Dolls quartet, and the Carrigtwohill Gospel Choir, before the night finishes with a festive feast from the Voice of Cork Choir.
On Sunday there’s fun in store for the whole family with Douglas Comhaltas at 4pm, Cork City Musical Society at 5pm, and Music Generation’s Mayfield Mashup at 6pm, all performing on the Corkmas Stage, along with another chance to hone your circus skills, as Boggle Circus teach the young and young at heart to juggle, spin plates and clown around on Emmet place.

The Ironic elf will tower above the audience and from a less dizzying height ‘Elfis’ will be sure to raise a giggle with his wacky walk-a-bout performance.
The city’s Ferris Wheel will be open every day from 12noon to 9pm until early January 2024. Booking is advised on www.corkmas.ie.
More than 20 iconic buildings and public spaces all over Cork will also be lighting up by night including the Elysian, Cork Chamber, Cork University Hospital, City Hall and the Bus Station. Also participating are Cork hotels Vienna Woods and the Kingsley, Cork’s cultural and historic venues, St Lukes, Triskel Christchurch, Old Cork Waterworks Experience & Firkin Crane and many of the city’s bridges and landmarks such as Shakey Bridge, St Patrick’s Bridge and the Berwick Fountain.
This Christmas, the Park and Ride at Black Ash has extended its opening hours until 10pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays up to and including December, 23. It will also open on Sunday's from 11am - 8.30 pm up to and including December 17. An extra temporary Park and Ride is operating from County Hall to Sheares Street.
