Cork Airport old terminal to be demolished early next year

Construction is set to begin in Cork Airport this summer, with the old terminal to be demolished early next year.

Kenny Jacobs, CEO of daa, which operates both Cork Airport and Dublin Airport, told The Echo: “The plan is still to demolish the old terminal. I think that will happen in 2026, as part of our wider plan.

“That plan includes building a mezzanine floor, so that we can have more shops, more security, and be able to take more engers.

“This terminal will get wider as we put in new piers, and the plan is for the old terminal to be demolished in early 2026.

“We’ll have a new pier going out that way and new gates to [the] left as you come into the airport, where the old terminal was.

“It’s all a sign of progress: We want this airport to be bigger, and that means developing the infrastructure.”

Mr Jacobs added: “The daa wants to continue to Cork, in of infrastructure development, and we are going to get on and start building this year.

“As people come back from their summer holidays, they’ll see that Cork Airport is becoming a bit of a construction site, and that’s a good thing: That means we’re investing, creating construction jobs, and making an airport for the future, so people should see that as a positive thing,” Mr Jacobs said.

“We want to drive on. The airport is operationally and commercially very strong, but we want to keep pushing ahead with it.

“It ties in with the commitment in the programme for government to the growth of Cork and other regional airports: It’s good for rebalancing Ireland.”

Cork will grow as a city “and we want to be front and centre of that, with the airport leading the charge”, he said.
