Discount retailer Mr Price is seeking planning permission for a new Cork store.

The plans, submitted last week to Cork County Council by Corajio Unlimited Company, who trade as Mr Price, seek to construct the retailers fifth Cork store along Broad St and Bakers Lane in Charleville.

The proposed development will see the demolition of a dwelling, a car repair garage, lean-to warehouse extension and ancillary buildings, for the construction of the new outlet.

The application is also seeking a change of use of the existing warehouse site from industrial use to retail use, and proposes the implementation of 35 car parking spaces to be used by store customers.

The plans further include provisions for the widening of the existing entrance and dished kerb access off Bakers Lane, with the relocation of speed ramps on the route.

The retailer already has four locations in operation across Cork city and county, including outlets on North Main St in Cork city, the West Side Retail Park in Ballincollig, the By Business Park in Bandon, and the Midleton Retail Park on the Old Cork Rd.

The application is currently at pre-validation stage, with Cork County Council due to make a decision on the proposed development by April 14.
