The Munster Technological University team celebrate an historic first Volleyball All-Ireland title.

Munster Technological University men's Volleyball club claimed their first All-Ireland title at the weekend.

The momentous win took place last Friday, at the University of Limerick as part of the action-packed Volleyball Ireland Cup Finals weekend.

Winning the All-Ireland was no easy feat, as the team overcame strong challenges from TU Dublin Tallaght, and a hard-fought semi-final clash against Dublin Business School.

Up to where they faced off against Griffith College Dublin, the very team that had denied them a place in the final the previous year.

The Volleyball team led by captain Samuel Gabor won on a scoreline of three sets to nil, showcasing the strong performance, incredible skill, determination, and teamwork demonstrated at the high-stakes match.

Speaking after the win, Miriam Deasy, MTU Sports Officer, said she was thrilled for the team.

"Last Friday was an historic day for our volleyball club as we captured the Student Sport Ireland/Volleyball Ireland All-Ireland title for the first time.

"The club has improved dramatically in the past two years, with fantastic numbers at training, catering for beginners, intermediate, and advanced players in a fun and inclusive environment.

"The hard work paid dividends with this historic win. There is a solid foundation in place to ensure future growth, success, and enjoyment.

“It is fantastic that these students will graduate from MTU with both academic and sporting achievements, along with fantastic memories of their time here.”
