Sean T of Griffin United produced another sterling run to win the Northern Hunt Senior draghunt at Douglas on Sunday.

Credit to John and Brion O’Callaghan in partnership with Dave McSweeney they put together a good open course and with a change in the weather the hounds were lifting on the hunt.

When the hounds came into view the winner had a slight lead and in the race to the tape, he showed the best turn of foot to cross the tape ahead of the Andrew O’Calllaghan trained Midday Authority from the Mayfield club.

The recent good form of Ger and Noah McCarthy’s Knock’s Boy continued as he ran another gallant race to fill third ticket.

After winning the Southern/Carrigaline harriers midweek rerun at Ballgarvan Sean T came into this race on a good run and trainers John and Sean O’Sullivan were thrilled to claim their second win of the season.

“Sean T is a decent hound when showing his best form and to win consecutive Senior draghunts in the space of five days is a good feeling and hopefully he is now back to his best,” John O’Sullivan said.

In the Senior Maiden draghunt there was a first win of the season for the Ger and Jennifer Kenneally trained Knockane Jack when he showed sheer resilience on the finish ta take the honours.

In a driving finish the winner saw off the consistent duo of Not Now Betty of Clogheen and Mayfield ace Tadgh’s Lad.

For the winning trainer Ger Kenneally it was a welcome win and he looked a happy camper with the display given by his hound.

The Puppy draghunt was held at the Haunted House on Saturday and it proved to be a great day for Shanakiel Harriers trainer Finbarr O’Sullivan when his charge Mossgrove Rodger landed the spoils.

Credit to the host club they managed to get good open terrain and in the race to the tape the winner had to show all his credentials to see off clubmate Mexican Jet trained by Gerry Murphy.

Kerry Pike/Fair Hill Harriers trained James Greene will be pleased with the performance of his hound Star Man Son who managed to snatch third ticket.

There was natural elation in the winner’s camp following the success of Mossgrove Rodger.

“Always good to get your head in front in this competitive grade and hopefully there will be a few more in the coming months,” Finbarr said.

The Northern Hunt club would like to convey many thanks and gratitude to the farming community in Douglas for the use of their lands and also to the landowners at the Haunted House who hosted the puppy draghunt.
