Legend visits Cork... plus ballet beauty takes to the stage

Legendary singer/songwriter Phil Coulter performs at Cork Opera House tonight, Thursday.

All too often these days, you hear someone described as a ‘legend’ when they have done very little to deserve such a title. However, there is no question about that applying to the man who appears at the Opera House tonight.

Phil Coulter is truly a legend, and one of the greats of the music world, with a life-long run of hits that have themselves ed into legend.

In this brand new show, Legacy, the energetic and indefatigable 82- year-old takes a fresh look back into 60 years at the top of his game with all the songs and stories.

The lively comedian Shane Todd is here tomorrow night with his new show, Full House. Those great musicians Amble are at the Opera House on Saturday night, but that is already sold out.

There are still a few seats left for The Celtic Tenors on Sunday night with Coming Home. Then next week it’s all preparation back stage for the big opening night of Cork City Ballet’s sparkling Sleeping Beauty, which runs Thursday-Saturday, November 7-9, at 8pm, with an additional matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm.

Directed by CCB Artistic Director Alan Foley, choreographed by Yury Demakov, The Sleeping Beauty reawakens the magic of the world’s favourite fairytale in an enchanted world of castles and curses, forests, and fairies. Perfect enjoyment to get you into the festive spirit in good time.

Don’t forget we have two of Europe’s foremost dancers flying in to take the leading roles of Princess Aurora and her Prince - prima ballerina Katerina Petrova, and her husband Tsetso Ivanov, of the Sofia State Ballet of Bulgaria. They will be ed by soloists and a full corps de ballet from Cork City Ballet.

“Yes, it’s all frantic now,” says Alan Foley, “but we are so excited about opening night next Thursday!”
